Athena cancels cruise season

More than 5000 passengers booked on Athena cruises are set to have their holidays cancelled after the Classic International Cruises Pty Ltd announced it would call off the Australian summer cruise season. The cancellation comes after the company went into voluntary administration last week.

Twenty Athena cruises were set to depart from Australian ports between November 2012 and April 2013, most from Fremantle. The Department of Consumer Protection believes most passengers paid deposits of 40 per cent. CIC Australia administrators Lawler Partners advised customers to contact their travel agents about future arrangements. Consumer Protection Commissioner Anne Driscoll said there were several avenues available to affected passengers to secure a refund.
